About Me

I am what society calls a senior citizen. I still have energy. I can still do most of what I used to be able to do just not for as long as I used to do it. I prefer to differ with society and instead suggest that there is quite a bit of life in my future. I,instead, choose to see myself as enjoying the late afternoon of my life.

When I look at where I have been in my life-not where I have travelled but what I’ve done to keep myself excited about the opportunity to live on this planet I panic some because there is so much more to learn-to see-to do-lessons to absorb and apply that, hopefully, make me a better citizen now than when I was 20 or 30 years younger and I fear I am going to run out of time. This blog site gives me an opportunity to share with others some of the knowledge and insight I have gained through hard knocks and loads of experience. There is no substitute for experience by the way.

One of the great issues I have with the younger inhabitants of this world is that they are far too eager to put us ‘old folk’ on the shelf and disregard what we spent a lifetime learning. But then I guess I was one of those guys as well when I wore a younger man’s clothes. I will say that one of the most important things I learned was just how important it is for fathers to be an integral part of their sons life right from day one. I have come to understand that this is so important–so vital that I would say our very survival as a race or species is dependent on it. I wrote a book about it-a novel actually-called
‘A Man’s Work Is Never Done . . . A Novel About Mentoring Our Sons.’ I’m told it’s a good read and worth time to read.

So the best I can hope for is that I will keep most of my marbles for as long as I can and share as much as I can with those who will consider what I have to say as possible. After that they will be on their own to either enjoy their lives or wish it were finished.

  1. Hi Jim, I’ve received your eamils but having difficulty responding through Linkedin. Anyway thanks and I’ve provided a different email address that I’m hoping will work better at my end? Marv

  2. Great blog. I’m “a senior citizen” man that also desires to be relevant in my final years. Not just sit back and do nothing. Nice thoughts. Thanks!
